Colombo, Sri Lanka: The Best Ice Cream in Town

There’s one sure fire way to cool down in the hot streets of Colombo

When the 40-degree sun hasn’t let up all day in Colombo, the tiny ice cream stalls tucked away in cooler buildings seem too good to be true. For a few rupees, a small cone is handed over through the window and, for just a moment, you forget all about that blazing heat.

Those scoops are a little treat indeed, but for an even brighter burst of cooling flavour, visitors to the Sri Lankan capital are highly advised to pop over to Jolly’s Ice Cream on Galle Road. The small stand is serving up scoops of creamy ice cream featuring authentic Sri Lankan flavours like cardamom, cinnamon and mango, just to name a few.

We spoke to Fazir, the owner of Jolly’s Ice Cream, during our stay in Colombo to find out more about his growing ice cream empire:

“What I decided after coming back to Sri Lanka, after being out for over a decade, was that I wanted to do something in relation to the island of Sri Lanka, which has traditionally been famous for its authentic spices and herbs.”

Sound like a dream? It is. So much so that we wrote about it for More Than Food Mag. Follow the link below to read the article and find out what else is in store at Jolly’s.
